MAINE
METRO U-13 BOYS SUFFER BITTER SWEET LOSS AT US REGIONALS
Maine Metro U-13 boys lost two games and tied one at the 2001 US
Regionals last week. The team lost to third ranked BYRC Titans from Virginia 7-0,
and HSC Silverhawks from Delaware 5-0. The team tied its final game 1-1 with
Seacoast United from NH. We matched up well with Virginia and Delaware, controlling
play for the first 25 minutes of the Virginia game, and for most of the Delaware game. We
were confronted with a very physical game that we were not accostomed to playing, but held
our own. The team dominated the NH game, but could not capitalize on its open
chances. The scores were no indication of how well the team played. We simply
made a lot of mental mistakes that cost us dearly. In comparison, Seacoast United,
beat Delaware 3-0, and Delaware lost to Virginia 1-0. Virginia went on to lose in
the finals 1-0 to New Jersey.
Our guys played well and without a doubt could have won both the Delaware and NH games,
and possibly advanced to the semi-finals.
The team must be commended on
an outstanding season, and we look forward to playing in Montreal in August, and to our
Fall season in the U-14 division.
Congratulations on a Great Year! |
