NEW MILESTONE

MAINE METRO F.C. REACHES ANOTHER MILESTONE..

The weather was perfect, the competition was top level, the fields were plush, we could not ask for a better weekend of soccer.  Compliments to the Farmington Savings Bank for putting on an outstanding tournament.  I would like to congratulate all the Metro teams for performing so well at the tournament, and I hope all enjoyed it as much as I did.

I would also like to extend my heart felt congratulations to our U-14 Boys team, for accomplishing what no other Maine team had done.  We played the Connecticut state champions Oakwood to a 1-1 tie.   This was by far one of our best games, and one that could have easily ended up 3-1 MMFC.  We dominated the 50/50 balls and created numerous scary moments for Oakwood, who undoubtedly did not expect the level of play from a Maine team.  Oakwood also played an outstanding game and must be congratulated on their performance.

Let's put this into perspective so we can all understand what the MMFC team accomplished.  Oakwood is a top premier club in New England, if not the country.  According to the Oakwood club, no Oakwood team has ever lost or tied with a Maine team.  The Oakwood team won the U-13 Boys 2001 Snickers cup in Connecticut, and were one of the favorites at the 2001 US Regionals.  They beat Pennsylvania West 1-0 who incidentally was one of the top four finalist at the 2001 Region One championships in Niagara Falls, New York.

Maybe now Maine will get the respect it deserves as a viable contender, not to be taken lightly.  We have proven we can play with the best teams in New England...what a wonderful feeling it is!!   Our performance only reaffirms the club's conviction that to compete nationally, we must play Fall, Winter, and Spring...like all the other top rated teams.  Go MMFC!!!!!
